Chinos have less stretch forgiveness than jeans with spandex, so getting the size right matters more here, not less.
Measure your actual waist
These run true to waist size in inches, 28 through 40. A soft tape around your natural waistline gives a more accurate number than checking the tag on an old pair of trousers that may have stretched over time.
One inseam, every size
32 inches across the board. Longer than needed, a tailor hems it cleanly in minutes. It's a far easier fix than trying to size down for length and ending up too tight at the waist.
What "straight fit" means on the leg
Not slim, not wide — a consistent leg width from thigh to ankle with a slight taper. It's the fit that works whether you're wearing loafers or sneakers, without looking either baggy or restrictive.
Rise and pockets
- Mid rise — sits at the natural waist, not low-slung.
- 4 pockets: two front slant, two rear welt.
- If between sizes, size up — a slightly relaxed chino wears better than a tight one all day.
