Three black tops, three different jobs. Here's the logic that removes the guesswork.
Office, no strict dress code
Polo. It reads as more effort than a t-shirt without needing to be tucked, ironed, or paired with a belt the way a full shirt often does.
Client meeting or interview
Shirt. A collar with a full button placket, tucked, is the only one of the three that reads as deliberately formal.
Gym, errands, flying
T-shirt. Nobody needs structure for a supermarket run, and a polo's collar just gets in the way under a hoodie.
Dinner reservation
Polo under a blazer, or a shirt on its own — both work. The shirt reads slightly more formal; the polo reads slightly more relaxed. Pick based on the restaurant, not the rulebook.
Weekend, no plans
Any of the three, honestly. This is where personal preference matters more than occasion — which is exactly why owning a good black version of all three, not just one, actually gets used.
